Camping without power: here’s how to use solar energy for your cooler

You drive into an abandoned camping spot, no power outlet nearby. The sun is high. And your cooler just keeps spinning.

It’s exactly what the HyCooler Solar Panel was developed for.

Solar-powered cooler: how does it work?

Most people think that a solar panel provides power directly to a cooler. They don’t. And that’s just as well: direct voltage from a panel is unstable and can damage equipment.

At Hyckes, it works differently. The HyCooler Solar Panel charges the HyCooler Powerpack. This is the rechargeable battery developed especially for the HyCooler Go and Pro coolers. The Powerpack acts as a buffer: it captures the solar power, regulates the voltage and delivers stable energy to your cooler.

The route is short and simple: solar panel → powerpack → cooler.

Thanks to the built-in charge controller in the cooler itself, the Powerpack charges directly and efficiently. No extra equipment, no hassle with separate controllers.

What the Solar Panel Can Do

The panel has monocrystalline cells with an efficiency of up to 23% in full sunlight. That’s on the high side for a portable panel. But even in cloudy or changeable weather, the efficiency is automatically optimized. You don’t have to set anything yourself.

In addition to the cooler, you can charge small electronics directly through the USB-A and USB-C ports on the panel itself. Handy if you also want to recharge your phone or power bank on the go.

The panel is completely weatherproof: protected from dust and splashing water, so you can leave it outside even when it rains.

Take away without hassle

The Solar Panel is foldable and compact. A handle makes it easy to carry. It has a sealed compartment for cables and accessories, so you never lose loose items in your bag. A magnetic closure keeps the panel from unwanted opening during transport.

Unpack, unfold, connect. There are no more steps.

Included in the set:

– HyCooler DC connection cable (100 cm)
– MC4 connection cable (150 cm)

Connections on the panel: USB-A (2×), USB-C, DC and XT60.

What coolers is it suitable for?

The HyCooler Solar Panel and Powerpack work with the following models:

HyCooler Go
HyCooler Pro (all models)
HyCooler Pro Dual Zone (all models)

Note: The HyCooler Life and HyCooler Life Dual Zone are not compatible with the Powerpack. As a result, you cannot use the Solar Panel to power these coolers via the Powerpack.

Unsure which model you have? Check the product name on the cooler itself or look in the box.

Who is this for?

If you regularly camp without a power connection, the combination Solar Panel + Powerpack is a logical investment. You are no longer dependent on a camping connection or your car battery. As long as the sun shines, your cooler will run. And even when it’s cloudy.

Specifically of interest to:

Van-lifers and roadtrippers who drive off-grid for several days or weeks and don’t encounter an electrical outlet every day.
Boat users who don’t always have a shore power connection on the water.
Festival-goers and free campers in places without infrastructure.
Sunny campers who prefer to convert the summer sun into cold drinks rather than a red head.

Solar energy as a backup or primary source

The Solar Panel is not just for extreme situations. Even at a regular campsite, it’s handy to know that your cooler is charged via the sun during the day, so you won’t quickly drain your battery at night.

The Powerpack has a capacity of 173Wh. How much run time that provides depends on the cooler model, the set temperature and the outside temperature. On a sunny day, the Solar Panel can help keep the Powerpack running longer. The exact runtime depends on the outside temperature, set temperature and how often you open the cooler.

Ready for off-grid adventure

Going off-grid doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort. With the HyCooler Pro or Go and its Solar Panel, you can keep your food and drinks chilled, even far from the nearest power outlet.
