HyFridge or HyFridge Dual zone: which one is right for you?
Two refrigerators. Almost identical on the outside. Yet there is one difference that is the overriding argument for many people.
What is the difference?
The standard HyFridge has two compartments and one display. Convenient for monitoring, but you only set one temperature: that of the refrigerator compartment. The freezer compartment follows automatically.
If you set the refrigeration at 4°C, the freezer automatically goes to -18°C. At 6°C cooling? Then it freezes at -17°C. You have no control over that. The coupling is fixed in the software.
With the HyFridge Dual zone, you can set both zones separately. The fridge compartment at 5°C and the freezer compartment at -10°C. Or freeze at -20°C whilst keeping the fridge compartment at 2°C. No automatic linking – you have full control over both compartments.
An added benefit of the HyFridge Dual Zone is that you can switch off the freezer compartment completely when you’re not using it. This way, you only use the cooling space you need and avoid wasting energy.
When is the standard HyFridge fine?
If you use the refrigerator primarily to keep food and drinks chilled, and you utilize the freezer compartment occasionally for a bag of ice cream or a ready meal, it matters little what exact temperature the freezer compartment is. The automatic clutch will then give you more than enough.
The stand is also suitable if you are in a fixed location, such as a seasonal spot or camping site with a connection, and you do not need to adjust the temperature distribution regularly.
When does the Dual Zone offer added value?
A dual-zone system is useful if you really need two independent zones. Think of a longer journey where you want to keep fresh produce chilled at exactly the right temperature, whilst freezing meat or fish at the same time. Or the other way round: a freezer compartment set to -12°C is more than enough for ice cream on a camping trip, whilst the fridge compartment is set to 6°C for your drinks.
The second consideration is energy consumption. A freezer compartment that cools to a lower temperature than necessary uses more electricity. With the standard HyFridge, you cannot adjust the freezer compartment independently, as it is always linked to the fridge compartment. With the Dual Zone model, you can set the operating temperature for both zones yourself. Don’t use the freezer compartment? With the HyFridge Dual Zone, you can even switch it off completely. That makes a difference when you’re driving off-grid, using solar power or a battery system.
For those who are on the road for several weeks and require a varied diet, the Dual Zone offers excellent flexibility. For a weekend of camping or a caravan trip, the standard HyFridge is perfectly adequate.
What format?
Both variants are available in 50, 65, 85 and 90 liters.
The 50L is compact enough for a smaller space or short trip. The 65L is the most requested size: enough for a couple or small family on longer trips. The 85L and 90L are intended for those who will be away for a long time, have a larger group, or want to use the refrigerator as a full-fledged kitchen refrigerator.
As a rule of thumb, figure about 10 liters per person per day for normal use. If you are going away for a week with two people, you will quickly end up with 70 liters or more. Then the 65L is on the tight side and the 85L is a wiser choice.
The choice
If you prefer simplicity and don’t need precise control over the freezer compartment, the standard HyFridge will do the job. If you want to decide for yourself how both zones are cooled, switch off the freezer compartment when you’re not using it, save energy or cater to specific cooling needs, then the Dual Zone is the logical choice.
